A “Bear-y” Special Poem for Robbie Burns night
For those who didn’t know,
‘twas in October’s haze,
An accident closed our doors for days.
A can of bear spray, by sheer mishap,
Left our library caught in a spicy trap.
Four hundred forty-two books we lost,
A blow that came at a heavy cost.
The children’s corner, so cherished and dear,
Was left in ruins and staff in tears.
But Kimberley folk, oh, hear me now,
Your hearts are grand; you’ve shown us how.
We called for help, a humble plea,
To raise fifteen thousand for books and glee.
And lo! The kindness came in streams,
Fulfilling hopes and lifting dreams.
From tooth fairy coins to the largest gift,
A couple gave ten thousand—a mighty lift!
Local businesses rallied, City Hall as well,
In ways that words can scarcely tell.
Each dollar, each gesture, from large to small,
Proved the strength of this community’s call.
And now, with wonder, we share the news,
That goal of fifteen we did pursue?
I’m happy to say that together we stand,
Oh my God, we’re at twenty-eight grand.
Tonight, we gather, together as one,
To celebrate all that you’ve bravely done.
Perhaps with this event, we’ll climb so high,
To thirty thousand—hey, I might as well try!
Oh Kimberley, your generous heart,
Has shown how much we can impart.
For books and learning, young and old,
Our love of knowledge, pure and bold.
Tonight we offer heartfelt thanks to you,
For believing in the work we do.
With every dollar and every cheer,
You’ve made our mission crystal clear.
So here’s to Kimberley, proud and grand,
A treasure in this wondrous land.
May our library forever be,
A beacon bright for all to see.
